• Cinema at Sundown (Thursdays, August 6, 13, and 20) - free movies in a park in Cupertino
• Starlight Cinema (Wednesdays, June 10 & 17, July 8 & 15, August 12 & 19 ) - free movies in parks in San Jose (formerly "Cinema San Pedro" and "Cinema St. James")
• Director's Colloquium (some Tuesdays, including almost every Tuesday in summer) - speakers on a variety of spacey topics
• Independence Day (July 4) - fireworks, of course; add anything else you discover
• Hiller Museum - Vertical Challenge
• Lick Observatory - star viewings, concerts, and lectures
• Mountain Theater Stargazing (one night a month May - October) - speakers and telescopes on Mount Tamalpais
• Music in the Park (Thursdays in July/August) - free concerts in a park in San Jose
• Music in the Other Park (Thursdays, in June) - free concerts in "the other park" in San Jose
• San Francisco Exploratorium - free first Wednesdays
• San Francisco Zoo - free first Wednesdays
• SETI Institute Seminars (Wednesdays) - lunchtime speakers on a variety of spacey topics
• Shoreline Amphitheater - large event venue, one exit north on HW101
• Thursday Night Live (June 5, July 3, August 7, and September 4) - Mountain View closes downtown Castro Street to traffic, and brings in food vendors, musicians, artists, and other stuff
• US Geological Service Evening Public Lecture Series - Monthly lectures on geology (occasionally of other planets), water quality, earthquakes, humongous tsunamis, etc.
