Starlight Cinema

Description

Starlight Cinema is one of several "movies in the park" series that are put on each summer in towns around the Silicon Valley.  (For others, check the upcoming events page.)  It used to be several series (including Cinema San Pedro and Cinema St. James), and it still takes place on different nights and at three different locations, but the city of San Jose has consolodated the name for 2009.  The movies are shown in San Pedro Square, in the San Jose Historic District, and in the South Fine Arts District (SoFA) on most Wednesday nights in June, July, and August.

June 10, 2009 - Blazing Saddles  (San Pedro Square)

June 17, 2009 - To Catch a Thief  (Historic District)

June 24, 2009 - Mad Hot Ballroom  (South Fine Arts District)

July 8, 2009 - Caddy Shack  (San Pedro Square)

July 15, 2009 - Casablanca  (Historic District)

July 22, 2009 - Romeo & Juliet [the Leonardo DiCaprio version from 1995]  (South Fine Arts District)

August 12, 2009 - Monty Python and the Holy Grail  (San Pedro Square)

August 19, 2009 - A Streetcar Named Desire  (Historic District)

August 20, 2009 - Shaun of the Dead  (South Fine Arts District)

There are no movies on July 1, July 29, or August 5.

Unfortunately, the people behind Starlight Cinema seem to be a bit remiss in explaining just where the heck their venues are.  The link above is a walking map that shows San Pedro Square and the Historic District, but you won't find an address for either one, and neither turns up in a Google map search.  You absolutely won't find a dot that says "movies here", or anything like that.  So, if you know exactly where the movies are shown, please update this page with that information.

San Pedro Square

According to the map at the link above, it's centered on San Pedro Street between St. John Street and Santa Clara Street.

Historic District

According to the map at the link above, it's centered at the intersection of San Fernando Street and North 2nd Street.

South Fine Arts District (SoFA)

According to the map at the link above, it's centered at the intersection of East San Salvador Street and South 1st Street.

Food vendors will be present at all sites, but bring your own chair, blanket, etc.  San Jose can get chilly after dark, even in the summer, so you might want a jacket, too.
