Please, please, PLEASE contribute to this if you can, even if it's just to add comments saying "I took this route, and it worked great" or "man, that was awful". Getting around without having to drive is eco-friendly and can be cheap (what with gas prices now), and it's also very handy for folks who didn't bring cars.Note: Paper copies of many of the maps listed below, and maps for many of the public transit systems below, can be found at the Mountain View Public Library.
-
BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) - a rail network for the northern half of the Bay Area, including San Francisco
-
Caltrain- a single-line rail system that runs from San Francisco in the north, through Mountain View, and on to Gilroy in the south
-
Google Transit - an in-development transit planner from Google Labs
-
MUNI Metro Rail Map - a group of six rail lines serving downtown San Francisco
-
OAK - Oakland International Airport - The farthest major Bay Area airport from NASA ARC, but still not too bad.
-
SFO - San Francisco International Airport - Reasonably close to NASA ARC, but extremely busy, and SJO is closer.
-
SJC - Mineta San Jose International Airport is by far the easist to get into and out of if you're coming to or leaving NASA ARC.

Sunnyvale Bicycle Maps
-
SFMTA (San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency)
-
Taxis - not public transit per se, but helpful if you find yourself at a bar after one too many
-
Transit.511 - SF Bay area transit planner)
-
VTA (Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority)
-
VTA Bicycle Trail Map - The web version has a clumsy interface, but the paper one is quite handy.
-
VTA Bus 51 - Bus 51 stops inside Moffett Field and runs into downtown Mountain View, but the service hours are limited.
YO guys, if you hate the walk to downtown Mountain View:
Use Ellis Gate ("South Gate") when open (hrs limited, and usually closes at 6p). It's a 15min walk from NEL. Keep on walking to the LIGHT RAIL service ($1.75). The light rail will take you to Mountain View Caltrain. I'm using this dealio to get to San Antonio Shopping Center.
