Mountain View Public Library
Description
This is the public library nearest to Ames/Moffett Field. It is not primarily a research library, so if you're looking for obscure references on space nuclear power or the properties of lunar regolith, you probably won't find them here. (Though you may find them at the ARC Technical Library.) On the other hand, it's a good place to go for a cheesy detective novel to take with you for a long car trip. (Assuming you're not the driver.) The building is modern, and the collection includes music CDs and books on CD, plus several shelves of DVDs, including some popular movies and television programs.
Portions of the library web site indicate that you can get a summer or temporary library card. This seems to be either out-of-date or simply an error, as several library staff replied with blank looks when asked about the subject. However, you can obtain a normal card, even if you aren't a permanent resident of the Mountain View area. You will need to present a photo ID such as a driver's license, and also proof that you are living in the area at least temporarily. If you're living on-site at Ames, a piece of mail addressed to you care of the NASA Exchange Lodge is sufficient.
