Section Index

Remember:  Inclusion in this wiki DOES NOT constitute an endorsement of any product, service, attraction, etc. by NASA, the Ames Research Center, or any other organization.  This stuff is listed here for your information only.

Airports, Public Transportation, and Bicycles

Please, please, PLEASE contribute to the public transportation part of this if you can, even if it's just to add comments saying "I took this route, and it worked great" or "man, that was awful". Getting around without having to drive is eco-friendly and can be cheap (what with gas prices now), and it's also very handy for folks who didn't bring cars.  Incidentally, paper copies of many transit system maps, can be found at the Mountain View Public Library.

Cities in the Area

Once you know where "here" is, it's a lot easier to discover what's around here.

Classified Ads & News Sources

"Psst. Hey, buddy. You wanna buy a bicycle?"

Places to find out what's happening, buy things, sell things, hire an illegal Martian immigrant to write your term papers for you...

Fun Places to Go

Museums, landmarks, state parks, and other attractions.

Inside ARC/Moffett Field

Even though a lot of the buildings have been abandoned, condemned for asbestos, or taken over by zombies, there are still quite a few interesting and/or useful places to be found inside the gates.

Interesting Activities

Really, do you want "watching that thing on tv, you know, that thing" to the most exciting anecdote you can tell after spending three months in the San Francisco Bay area?

Parks, Pools, and Ballfields

These are places (outside of ARC/Moffett Field) to picnic, swim, play XTREEM ULTIMATE HYPERSONIC MEGA FRISBEE!!!!! (or whatever the latest trend is), veg out, work on your tan, chase squirrels, whatever. (Note: National parks are listed under Fun Places to Go.)

Places to Take Classes

If you're reading this it's probably 50-50 that you're a student already, but you never know when you might want to take a refresher course in chemistry, practice your blacksmithing, study Mandarin Chinese, or learn how to waltz.

Places to Volunteer

Because although complaining about the world is easier, doing something about it is more useful.

Restaurants, Bars, and Clubs

Keep in mind that the drinking age in California is 21, just like it is everywhere else in the United States.  Also, a comment on drinking and driving.  Finally, we REALLY need information on restaurants that will deliver to the Exchange Lodge, Buildings 583A and 583B.

Stores and Services (Outside of ARC/Moffett Field)

You don't need to bother listing every gas station and Qwik-E-Mart in northern California, but if you know of a place that's noteworthy you can share it with the class here.

Things You Should Know

ARC/Moffett Field, silicon valley, California, the United States, and (depending on our readership) Earth aren't necessarily like wherever you were before.  So, here are some useful tidbits of information about your new surroundings.

Upcoming Events

Since the calendar isn't currently editable by everyone, feel free to list your favorite event here.  Please only list things that are open to the public, or at least a large chunk of the public.  (Nobody needs to know about your second cousin's bachelor party, or Angelina Jolie's wedding.)  Also, once it's happened, delete it, unless it's something recurring.

Web Links

If you know of another site that provides a useful product or service, but doesn't fit in any other category, list it here.

Things We Know We're Missing

Various stuff that would be really handy to include here, but that nobody's found or figured out yet.
