Director's Colloquium

Description

Strictly speaking, this should probably be "Director's Colloquia", or something like that, since there are quite a few of them.  At any rate, they are hour-long presentations on a variety of aerospace topics.  They happen infrequently throughout the year, usually on Tuesdays at 2 PM.  During the summer, there is a special series of them, usually 10 or so spread out over June, July, and August.

Please note that the auditorium where these presentations are held is located "within the black gate".  You'll need a badge to get in, and if you are a non-US citizen with an "escort only" badge, you will need an escort.

There is usually a reception (with cookies!) after the presentation.

Incidentally, the Ames Technical Library has a collection of DVDs with Director's Colloquia going back several years.  As of this writing, the videos are not available online.

The current schedule for the summer of 2009 is:

June 9 - Bill Borucki:  "Kepler:  A Step Toward Discovering Life in the Milky Way"

June 16 - Dale Cruikshank:  "Cassini Explores the Saturn System"

June 23 - Philip Russell:  "Aerosol Particle Roles in Climate Change"

June 30 - Pete Worden:  "Protecting Earth from Asteroids"

July 7 - Dov Adelstein:  "Human Vibration Studies for NASA's Constellation Program"

July 14 - Pamela Marcum:  "How SOFIA Will Help Shape the Future of Infrared Astronomy"

July 21 - Lynn Harper:  "Unleashing the Genius:  Commercial Passenger Spaceflight"

July 28 - Liane Guild:  "NASA's Airborne Remote Sensing of Coral Reefs"

August 4 - Carl Pilcher:  "Astrobiology and Virtual Institutes"

August 11 - Laura Iraci:  "Laboratory and GCM Studies of Cloud Formation on Mars"

Note that the schedule may change slightly over the summer.  The people who give these presentations are distinguished experts and/or VIPs, and they have a lot of demands on their time.  Discoveries that need their attention, crises that need their management, aliens escaping from the secret holding cells at Area 51...  ...uh, you didn't read that last one, OK?
